Wintertime

I've finally come to accept that even though it is freezing and snow is on the ground my toddler still wants to go outside and play. So, on Saturday we bundled her up and went outside. She had a blast! We also went to the Champaign parade of lights. Katie liked listening to the bands play and the firetrucks. I liked the hot chocolate.

Happy Thanksgiving/Birthday

First a big thank you to Uncle Mark and Aunt Suz for hosting us. Thank you so much and the food was amazing! Katie has been asking for "pie" ever since we left. Thanksgiving was full of lots of food and lots of rest. Yeah! We ended the week with my birthday (another excuse for more delicious goodies-thanks to my wonderful cooking husband). We are now very full and happy people.

All friends and family beware. Katie is learning that mommy has a baby in her tummy. So anyone with a "tummy" Katie likes to point it out and yell "BABY" as loud as she can. She has repeated told David all about the baby in his tummy. So beware she is not rude just 2!!! :)

It's a Girl

Here is our new baby girl.  We're still expecting her on April Fool's Day.  We're pretty excited; we think we know how to handle a girl.

We're trying to teach Katie that she's going to have a little sister.  We're confident Katie will be a great big sister.

HOORAY!!!

Happy Halloween

JaNae and I dressed as vendors from the "Happy Popcorn Co." and Katie was a bag of popcorn.

Katie even ate some of the yummy chili; this Ward Halloween party included a chili cook off.

She had to take small waddling steps in her box; she couldn't reach any candy into her mouth; but she was a trooper. She became resourceful toward the end...she started eating the popcorn off the front of her costume.

Grandparent Shout-out

Katie loves grandma, grandpa, and ice cream cones.

Harvest Fest

Last week we enjoyed the annual Champaign Park District's "Harvest Fest." We all had tons of fun with the petting zoo, crafts, pumpkin rolling, balloon animals, and Grandpa's Banjo band. Yee Hawww. And, like any good festival-goers, we ended the day with Fryer Tuck's curly fries. Yum.

Strinking a pose with the hay bales and scare crows.

What a happy family.

Encounters with glue.

Tanner girls checking out the "other" petting zoo (fish).

Katie seemed more timid this year than last at the petting zoo; probably because she's been hearing us tell her "don't touch that" or "be soft" for a whole year.

Yeah, we had a grand ole time; you all should come next year.

Wahoo

Happy news everyone, we are expecting a baby. Yeah!!! The stork is supposed to be here April 2nd. JaNae is 13 weeks along and slowly recovering from morning sickness. We got to hear the heart beat; that was awesome. And Katie is excited to be a big sister.

2nd Birthday

Balloons...check!

Streamers...check!

Super cheap toy kitchen that takes 3 hours to assemble...check!

Yellow cake with sprinkles...check and check!

Did Katie love the wrapping paper more than all our hard work?...double check!

Prodigal Bloggers Return!

We have returned! Recently, Katie took an interest in babies. So, we took her to the store and let her pick one out. She picked "baby" as she likes to call her and carried her through the entire store until we were done. She is still learning to be soft. But, overall it's adorable.

TFRT08 - Palmyra New York

The Palmyra segment of he Tanner Family Road Trip 2008!

Katie flying a kite for the first time.

This is the view from the top of the Hill Cumorah, overlooking the pageant stage.

Brother Joseph was kind enough to let us take a picture with him before the pageant.

The view of the Palmyra Temple is beautiful from the Sacred Grove.

And, here we are in the sacred grove.

JaNae and Katie at the Palmyra Temple.

Here is the Peter Whitmer home, where the Book of Mormon was translated.

Yeah, you could say we had a lot of fun.

TFRT08 - Niagara Falls Canada

The Niagara Falls segment of the Tanner Family Road Trip 2008! Oh yeah!

JaNae and I lovin' the cool misty air of Canada (how fast is 90 km/hr anyway?).

Katie's favorite part was being able to sit like a big girl in her own seat on the Niagara Falls Tram.

Just a note about crossing the Canadian border. They call it a "friendly" border because you don't technically need a passport, but the border patrol gaurds aren't friendly; they're really intimidating. There's something about a big man carrying a gun asking me "ARE YOU CONCELING ANY WEAPONS OR ALCOHOL IN YOUR VEHICLE! CAN YOU PLEASE ROLL DOWN YOU WINDOWS SO I CAN LOOK INSIDE!"

And here is my favorite video of Niagara Falls. It shows the slow calm water and the fast falling water. What you see here is a tiny fraction of the falls.

TFRT08 - Kirtland Ohio

Our Kirtland segment of the Tanner Family Road Trip 2008...

Here's Katie enjoying our road trip just how we taught her.

In modern language, we would call this dinning room / kitchen / family room a "great room."

Here's the Newel K. Whitney store, where many revelations in the D&C were received, where the School of the Prophets was held, and where my great-great-great-great-grandfather John Tanner bought a spelling book.

JaNae and I were so excited to be touring these great places, we forgot that Katie still needed her nap as a part of her routine.

One of my favorite places on our trip, the Kirtland Temple. I am in awe of the sincere sacrifice which went into building this temple; the blessings the Saints received for this sacrifice is a lesson for us all that when the Lord says "Open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing" He means it.

And then we finnished off the day with some ice cream from a local dive.

4th of July

We are finally getting to this post! Problem with digital cameras...you never download the pictures until you have a million. So, sorry this post is so late. We headed over to Parkland College and sat out on the grass. Katie loved all the new experiences that go along with 4th of July.

Katie tried a snow-cone and loved it. She had no intention of sharing though (when she likes something eating becomes a very serious matter).

She also became very attached to sunglasses, kettle corn, and was in complete awe over the firework display

And just for good measure: Katie is just starting to be interested in craft projects. So, trying to be a good mom I baby proofed and prepared for finger painting. I was so excited and proud of my extra effort. I thought for sure it would be a total hit. Unfortunately, it was a total BUST. Katie put her fingers in the paint and immediately was upset about her hands being dirty. An "A" for effort I suppose.

Water Baby

Last week we got daddy to leave school early one day and we headed to the outlets. We bought Katie a new Sunday outfit. She was so excited she carried it around the house all week. And was so excited when we finally let her wear it.

Summertime has arrived. So, we put Katie in her swimsuit handed her the hose and let her have all the fun she wanted. She managed to get every square inch of the backyard wet in record time.

Adventures with Toddlers

Toddlers like to be doing and they like to be doing on their own. Katie trying to do things on her own has created adventures at our house.

Katie putting on lipstick.

Katie feeding herself (always an adventure).

Probably one of the greatest things about toddlers is you never know what they are going to do. Last night before I went to bed, I went into Katie's room to check on her and this is what I found...

It's Official

We are out of debt! We are out of money too, but out of debt also! And here's proof:

Katie loves music and dancing. Enjoy!

Annihilation

Annihilation: matter and anti-matter collide, destroy one another and release energy. This happened to us last week. Pile of Sod (matter) + Bare Dirt (anti-matter) = Happiness (energy) + No Pile of Sod + No Bare Dirt.

Storytime with Katie

Katie has a few words but most of the time she babbles. But she always babbles with a purpose. Here is Katie telling us a story.

Katie Uses a Spoon!

Here is Katie using a spoon for the first time...successfully. She loves stawberry yogurt so much, she'll lap up every last drop with her fingers.

Katie is Growing Up

These are just some recent pictures we have taken of our little angel. She is growing up so fast.

Welcome

We welcome you all to the Tanner Family's Blog. We know you'll enjoy the snippets of our life which we post here, because we sure do!
