TFRT08 - Kirtland Ohio

Our Kirtland segment of the Tanner Family Road Trip 2008...

Here's Katie enjoying our road trip just how we taught her.

In modern language, we would call this dinning room / kitchen / family room a "great room."

Here's the Newel K. Whitney store, where many revelations in the D&C were received, where the School of the Prophets was held, and where my great-great-great-great-grandfather John Tanner bought a spelling book.

JaNae and I were so excited to be touring these great places, we forgot that Katie still needed her nap as a part of her routine.

One of my favorite places on our trip, the Kirtland Temple. I am in awe of the sincere sacrifice which went into building this temple; the blessings the Saints received for this sacrifice is a lesson for us all that when the Lord says "Open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing" He means it.

And then we finnished off the day with some ice cream from a local dive.

I love that the local dive is like a block away from the temple :)

Because you mentioned what a sacrifice the temple was to make, here is a bit of evidence of that: the quoins (the square stones just on the corners) have a very different texture than they should, because the saints were so poor they couldn't even afford chisels to make them correctly.
